## What an emergency call-out covers
An emergency call-out is about stopping the damage. We attend, get the roof safe and watertight, and remove any immediate hazard, a loose slate over a footpath, a hanging gutter, a stack shedding masonry, a hole letting water straight into a room.

That is deliberately separate from the permanent repair. Making a roof watertight in bad weather, sometimes in the dark, is not the same job as fixing it properly, and pretending otherwise leads to rushed work. Once the building is protected we inspect properly, tell you what actually failed, and quote the permanent repair for you to agree in your own time.

The call-out carries a £150 + VAT fee. Any further work found is quoted and agreed separately, so you know exactly what you are committing to at the point of the call.

Our standard inspections and quotes remain free. The fee applies specifically to emergency attendance rather than a scheduled visit.

### When to call us out as an emergency

- Water coming into the house now

An active leak running into a room, a ceiling bulging with trapped water, or water near electrics.

- Storm damage

Tiles or slates stripped off, a section of covering lifted, a ridge displaced, or a flat roof membrane torn back by wind.

- Impact damage

A fallen branch or debris through a roof, a conservatory roof or a rooflight.

- Anything unsafe at height

Loose masonry on a chimney, a gutter hanging off the fascia, or tiles overhanging a pavement or driveway.

- Escalating damage

A known leak that has suddenly got much worse and cannot wait for a scheduled visit.

## What waiting costs when a roof is open
Once water has an unobstructed route in, the damage is measured in hours rather than weeks.

### What it leads to

- Water running into a room damages plaster, flooring, furniture and possessions far faster than it damages the roof.
- A ceiling holding trapped water can come down without warning, which is a safety risk as well as a repair bill.
- Water reaching wiring, downlights or a consumer unit is an electrical hazard.
- An exposed roof takes on damage across a wide area in the next band of wind and rain, not just at the original failure.
- Saturated insulation and structural timber take a long time to dry and can develop rot and mould.
- Loose tiles or masonry above a public path or a neighbour's property is a liability that grows with every gust.

### Common mistakes

- Waiting for the weather to clear before calling, while the roof stays open through the worst of it.
- Climbing onto a wet roof to look. Falls from height are the reason this is a trade with training and insurance.
- Accepting a doorstep offer from someone who happened to be passing after a storm, with no company details and no guarantee.
- Paying for a full permanent repair in the middle of a storm, before anyone has been able to inspect properly.
- Leaving a temporary cover in place for months instead of arranging the permanent repair.

Make it safe first, diagnose second, repair properly third. That order protects your house and your money.

How we work

## Our process, start to finish

- Step 1

### Call and triage
Tell us what is happening and where. We establish whether this genuinely needs an emergency attendance or whether a free scheduled inspection is the better answer for you.

- Step 2

### Attend and make safe
We remove immediate hazards and get the roof watertight, temporary covering, securing loose material, and stopping water reaching the inside of the building.

- Step 3

### Inspect and document
Once the building is protected, we inspect properly and set out what the permanent repair involves.

- Step 4

### Quote the permanent repair
You get a fixed-price quote for the permanent work, separate from the call-out, to consider and agree in your own time.

- Step 5

### Complete and guarantee
The permanent repair is carried out, and you receive a before-and-after photographic report with our 5-year workmanship guarantee.

What you get

## The difference it makes

-
### The damage stops
Getting the roof watertight is the priority, before anything else is discussed.

-
### A clear, stated fee
£150 + VAT for the call-out, with any further work quoted and agreed separately. Nothing decided under pressure.

-
### Local team
Based in Stonesfield near Witney and working across Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire.

-
### Properly insured
£5,000,000 public liability insurance and City & Guilds qualified, not a passing doorstep trader.

-
### Photographic record
A before-and-after photographic report of the completed work.

-
### Permanent repair guaranteed
The follow-up repair carries a 5-year workmanship guarantee; a full replacement carries up to 20 years.

## Storm damage, making safe and what comes next

### Typical storm damage in Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds
Exposed rural and hilltop properties take the worst of it: tiles lifted along a ridge or verge where the fixing pattern was marginal, ridge tiles displaced where the mortar bedding had already cracked, and flat roof membranes peeled back at an edge trim. Wind gets under an edge and works along it, so damage tends to run in a line rather than in one spot.

Falling branches account for most impact damage, particularly on conservatory roofs and rooflights, where the covering is glass or polycarbonate rather than tile.

### How a roof is made safe
Making safe means removing what could fall, covering what is open, and diverting water away from where it is entering the building. That may be temporary sheeting weighted and secured against further wind, refixing or removing loose material, or clearing a blocked outlet that is causing a flat roof to back up.

It is a holding measure by design. It buys the time to inspect properly and price the repair with the roof dry and the light good.

### Emergency versus a free scheduled inspection
Not everything needs an emergency response, and we will say so. A slipped tile with no water coming in, or a damp patch that has been there for months, is better dealt with by a free scheduled inspection with no call-out fee. We would rather book you in than charge you for an attendance you did not need.

### Insurance claims
Storm damage is often claimable. Every completed job comes with a before-and-after photographic report as standard, which gives you a record of the work carried out.

### Flat roofs, conservatories and rooflights
Wind damage to felt, GRP and EPDM roofs usually begins at a trim or upstand. Impact damage to conservatory roofs and rooflights is about making the opening safe and weathertight before the glazing or panel can be replaced. One customer contacted us early evening about a hole in a glass conservatory roof; we attended the following morning, identified the issue and returned that afternoon to repair it.

### Gutters, blockages and sudden internal damp
A gutter that overflows in a downpour can put water into a wall fast enough to look like a roof failure. Clearing the blockage and proving the fall is sometimes the entire emergency, and it is worth checking before anything more involved is assumed.

### After the emergency
Storm damage frequently exposes an underlying condition, a covering already at end of life, fixings that were never adequate for the exposure, or a flat roof detail that was going to fail anyway. We report what we find, and if replacement rather than repair is the honest answer, we say so and quote it.

Questions

## Frequently asked
How much is an emergency call-out?£150 + VAT. Any further work found is quoted and agreed with you separately, so the call-out fee is the only figure you are committing to when you ring.

Are your normal quotes and inspections still free?Yes. Quotes and inspections are free. The fee applies only to emergency attendance.

What counts as an emergency?Water actively coming into the building, storm or impact damage that has opened the roof, or anything unsafe at height such as loose masonry or a hanging gutter. If it is not urgent, we will book a free inspection instead.

Will you fix it permanently on the call-out?The priority is making the roof safe and watertight. Sometimes the permanent repair can be completed at the same time; where it cannot, we inspect, quote and return to do it properly.

Do you cover flat roofs and conservatory roofs?Yes: felt, GRP and EPDM flat roofs, and damage to conservatory roofs and rooflights.

Can I claim on my insurance?Storm damage often is claimable. Every completed job comes with a before-and-after photographic report, which gives you a record of the work carried out.

What guarantee comes with the permanent repair?Five years of workmanship guarantee on repairs. If the honest answer is replacement, a new pitched roof carries 20 years, felt flat roofs 15 and GRP or EPDM 20.

Are you insured to work at height on my property?Yes: £5,000,000 public liability insurance, City & Guilds qualified and members of the Construction Award Alliance.

How do I pay?Cash, card or bank transfer.

Which areas do you cover for emergencies?Witney, Stonesfield, Woodstock, Charlbury, Chipping Norton, Burford, Banbury and across Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire including the Cotswolds.
